Ubisoft has confirmed Might and Magic Heroes VI, is slated for release in March 2011. One of the first changes revealed in the turn based strategy game is the rearrangement of the name for the sixth installment, and no real reason has been given as to why.
Heroes VI will be a prequel to the main campaigns that were seen in Heroes of Might and Magic V, with events taking place four centuries earlier in the world of Ashan. Having being revived hundreds of years earlier after perishing during the Elder Wars, a legendary Archangel General plans to recover his powers and take control of Ashan, all while battling a supposed Demon invasion. The only thing is in his way is the Griffin dynasty. The campaign protagonists of the five factions are members of the Griffin family and all campaigns can be played in any order, and are interconnected.
The video game Might and Magic: Heroes VI features a unique mix of Turn-Based Strategy & RPG, which is similar to Microsoft’s upcoming video game series Age of Empires Online.
Developers Black Hole Entertainment has confirmed the title will remain largely faithful to its previous titles in terms of game play, and will retain most of its fundamental elements. Boss fights, town conversion functionality and a reputation will make its way into Heroes VI, and multiplayer capabilities, although Black Hole are keeping tight lipped on the specifics.
Of the four rare resources obtainable in all previous installments, only crystals will remain. Roughly 50% of units present in the game will be new introductions to the series, including the Radiant Glories of Haven, the Fate Spinners of Necropolis and the Breeders of Inferno.
Seen in the few screenshots released by Black Hole, Heroes VI will feature new 3d designs and fantastic landscape scenery, with much of the new artwork a result of fans comments and suggestions on a private community forum. A lot of hard work has been put into the factions and Black Hole have already stated they want each to be unique and balanced to make Heroes VI one of the best in the franchise.
For now, fans can check out screenshots, trailers and keep up to date on all the latest news on the official Might and Magic Heroes VI website at http://might-and-magic.ubi.com/heroes-6/en-GB/home/
Editor's Note: This is one for my younger sister, she's been playing the Might and Magic series for ages. From M&M VII: For Blood and Honor & M&M VIII:Day of the Destroyer, to Dark Messiah and then on to Heroes and all the expansions thus far. This is definitely one that she'll want to play this year!
