Now I haven't played Magic the Gathering in at least 3 years, mostly since my card collection of over 8,000 cards, including the complete Ice Age and most of at least 3 other sets was stolen out of the back of my car one night after I'd gone to a large tourney. It was in a large wheeled case, the luggage type, it held all my binders and my box of customized playing decks, varies counter sets and collectible life counter boards. Losing that sorta put a big damper on playing again...it was many years worth of dedication to building, trading and buying. I only hope that whoever did get them knew what he had and didn't just ditch the case contents with ignorant disregard...
Now I've also played the Magic the Gathering game - the first one, which I did enjoy and had fun with. I also expanded and got Duels of the Planeswalkers, Battlegrounds and BattleMage as well. I even attempted to play online in the Magic the Gathering Community - joining up in a few events, though I never joined a tourney. The game was okay with the mixing of the card elements and the storyline gameplay...but it was always short of bringing the card game to life. It was just short of ever crossing over into the imagined greatness that it could become...
Well, from what my sources tell me the 18th of January, Sony is going to be releasing an entirely new Magic the Gathering MMO! Plus from what I've seen of the images, it's going to be incredible graphics wise!
The new MtG MMO is going to be called Tactics, which suggests that it will be a turn based game more than the usual card game style. The deck will still be there and plenty of aspects of the game will be familiar to the past card/software gamers. The fact it's going to be a free to play and that it will have more focus on the gameplay area are big bonuses for me.
Plus with a release date this close, it makes waiting a bit easier - but if you need to get more information right now, head on over to the link below and check out the screenshots and video.
This is definitely one I'm going to want to try out this month!
